The Martin Group of Companies was established in January 1977 by John and Steve Martin, a father and son duo who decided to embark on a journey in the real estate industry. John, a practicing Public Accountant, had just completed a successful 30-unit senior citizen property in Huntingburg, IN, while Steve, a recent University of Evansville graduate, was working in Advertising & Public Relations at Jasper Engines & Transmissions in Jasper, IN. Their initial collaboration proved fruitful, leading John to sell his accounting practice and the two to establish a full-fledged real estate practice.
Over the past 47 years, The Martin Group has grown significantly, transitioning from its roots in affordable housing to become a formidable player in the commercial real estate market. This evolution was further strengthened with the involvement of Steve’s sons, Alex and Andy, who have joined the family business, ensuring the continuation of the Martin legacy into its third generation.

We have served as Principals in numerous partnerships, corporations, and LLCs, and have acted as Asset Manager for a $50,000,000 public fund. One of our most notable projects is The Promenade in Evansville, a 220 acre high-end mixed-use development featuring a retail town center, apartments, condos, office, medical, and hospitality spaces, all with a distinctive architectural focus.

The Martin Group has managed properties under a variety of federal programs, including HUD Section 8, HUD 811, HUD 202, HUD 236, HUD 221d-4, HUD 8/515, and FmHA 515 with Rental Assistance, as well as market rate apartments, office, and industrial properties. Over the past 47 years, we have been retained by HUD, RD, lenders, and public funds to provide asset management, training seminars, and consulting services. We have also been instrumental in turning around troubled properties, aiding in their disposal, or acting in a consulting capacity.
Our principals have served in leadership roles in various industry groups, including Indiana Commercial Board of Realtors (ICBR), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM)the Midwest Association of Housing Management Agents (MAHMA), National Apartments Association (NAA), Apartment Association of Indiana (AAI), Apartment Association of Southern Indiana (AASI). Steve Martin, in particular, has held numerous leadership positions, including President of the Rural Rental Housing Association of Indiana and President of the Indiana Commercial Board of Realtors (ICBR).
The Martin Group is also deeply committed to community involvement. Steve Martin has served as the Chair of Site Selection and Advisor for the $35 million development of the Downtown Central Library and its two satellite libraries, donating all fees back to the library or literacy organizations. He has been a board member for Keep Evansville Beautiful, serving as Chairman and now honored as a lifetime Board Member. Additionally, Steve is a founding member and current member of the Evansville Executive Forum and has been a featured speaker for University of Evansville classes to seniors and in the Executive MBA Program. Andy is a member and serves as a board member of Keep Noblesville Beautiful.
